All striking AI pilots to be sacked

NEW DELHI: The on-going strike by Air India pilots seems to have taken a fresh turn with the national carrier deciding to sack all 300 agitating pilots.

In a disclosure to a private news channel, sources have revealed that an order to the effect has been issued and termination letters would be sent to the striking pilots within this week. Earlier, Air India had sacked 101 protesting pilots. The national carrier had even placed advertisements for hiring new pilots and officers for domestic and international services.

It is pertinent to mention that Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had said pilots and engineers may return to work without any conditions and that, the pilots would be required to apply again if they wanted to return to work.

Meanwhile, the pilots’ strike entered its 34th day today. The pilots on international routes have been protesting for new pay and career progression rules. As a result of the pilots’ strike, the national carrier has been suffering losses to the tune of Rs 10-15 crore per day.
