Footbal: CFA v Punjab FA and SAI (East) v Hoshiarpur FA in semis

CHANDIGARH: Defending champions and Group A leaders Chandigarh Football Academy will Group D champions Punjab Football Academy in the first semi-final match on September 9 in the fourth edition of the Administrator's Challenger Cup All-India Football Tournament for Boys Under-17 being organised by Chandigarh Sports Department here.



The second semi-final will be contested between Group C champions Sports Authority of India (East) Kolkatta and Group B leaders Hoshiarpur Football Academy on September 9. Tomorrow is a rest day. CFA, Punjab Football Academy and Hoshiapur Football Academy topped their respective groups. They collected nine points apice from three victories each in their respective groups. In the depleted Group C only SAI (East) and New Public School, Sector 18 Chandigarh were left in the contention. SAI drew with NPS and in the double leg, SAI beat NPS by 2-0.

The semi-final line-up is: CFA vs Punjab FA (2 p.m.) and SAI (East) vs Hoshiarpur FA (4 p.m.) on September 9 with a day's rest tomorrow. Spirited Football Academy, Hoshiarpur humiliated St. Stephen's Football Academy, Chandigarh by 5 – 0. The Hoshiarpur lads were full in cry today. In the second minute Mehnga Singh gave a calculated cross to Charanjit Singh who made no mistake to score the first goal.

It was again Charanjit Singh who dribbled past two defenders of St. Stephen's and scored second goal for his team in the 19th minute with his solo efforts. In the 30th minute Mehnga Singh gave a square pass and Dilshad Ahmed scored the third goal for his team.

After the lemon break Hoshiarpur FA dominated the proceedings and pumped two more goals.  Lanky striker Arun netted the fourth goal for his team in the 46th minute. In the 54th minute Gurwinder Sngh scored the fifth goal.             

In the second match fancied Chandigarh Football Academy hammered Chhattisgarh by 21-0.
