CHANDIGARH: The Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital would start a new course for paramedics from the coming academic session to train students as health providers. The college management has signed a memorandum of understanding with Portage College in Alberta State of Canada in this regard.
Dr A. S. Sekhon, Principal of the GSMCH who is also Dean of the Gian Sagar group of colleges, said here Sunday that as per the agreement the Canadian college would interview and shortlist candidates for admission to the paramedics course. The selection would be made strictly on basis of merit from among students who have passed +2 examination with science subjects.
The selected students would be taught at the Gian Sagar College for first six months. During their teaching programme they would be taught by Canadian teachers also who would be visiting the GSMCH campus for the purpose.
The rest of the course, of one and a half years, would be completed in Canada where the students would. Successful students would be given work visas by the Canadian authorities and placements would also be ensured by the Canadian college.
Dr Sekhon said that a fee of $ 20,000 had been planned for the course. The course was bound to attract a large number of candidates since it would offer employment opportunities abroad.
He said the selected students would be given training in English at GSMCH. It would be ensured that the students qualified the IELTS and TOFEL courses since this would help them in securing employment in Canada.
He said that the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital had one of the best faculties in this part of the country. He said that the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital was equipped with the latest medical equipment and treatment in medical super specialties was available to the patients reporting at the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital.
He said that the hospital had been provided with state of the art technology and had latest equipment in laboratories. He said that the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust was committed to providing quality healthcare services to the people of this part of the region. He said that the trust had ambitious plans on the anvil for providing specialized health services and highly affordable rates.
Dr Kamaljit Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, said that the Trust has been promoted by Harvinder Singh Bhangoo in memory of his late grandfather Gurdial Singh Bhangoo. The trust is being managed by medical professionals dedicated to undertake human resource development programmes through educational, health and community welfare activities by establishing schools, colleges, hospitals and social welfare centers.
