On this Monday 190 countries will meet to dwell upon the effects of climatic changes and green house gases over the world. Special invitation by Obama to Dr Manmohan Singh to attend it has been a great diplomatic success to us. In addition to it growing economy of India now can not afford to ignore impact of development activities on environment and climate in the region.
Increase in temperature on earth and sharp changes in climate has pressurized the global community to reduce carbon emissions by 85 percent. It is important for India because every year our add up figure to this poisonous emission is 1.2 tons per capita. India wants to reduce it but not at the cost of growth rate.
Though India has adopted a stand in fine tune with china to focus on reduction of speed of carbon emission. It would have been better for us if could focus on climate and environment friendly growth machinery.
It is a fact that developed nations have hidden agenda of hampering the growth engines of Asian giants, India and China. Though India has softened its stand for this summit but the developed world must bear the cost of reducing green house dilemma.
India’s participation will be relevant at Copenhagen only if it can make a strong case in favour of developing nations and is candid enough to point out the role played by the dictating nations in blind harnessing of the natural resources of the developing countries.
It needs a decisive courage on the part of our leadership.
In this summit, it may be tried that instead of beating their own drum the participating nations, reach on the consensus of making the world a better living place for everybody .
There is a need to link the progress made by nations with healthy breathing and life.
Problem of green house effect is global and needs globally acceptable solutions, where no nation can be taken for granted while reaching at a particular decision. Thank you Mr. Obama for recognizing the Indian will.
