Mahila Cong chief seek 33 percent Quota for women in Parliament and State legislatures
By Bahadurjit Singh ROPAR: All India Mahila Congress president Anita Verma today said that the women must be provided benefit of 33 reservations in the Parliament and State legislatures ensuring their real empowernment without any delay. While talking to media persons at local Congress Bhawan today,Verma said that though Women had been provided reservation in Panchayati Raj Institutions and local self governments,but they were yet to get reservation in the Parliament and State legislatures.She said that the women reservation bill .which had already been passed in the Rajya Sabha,must now be got passed in the Lok Sabha to provide the women reservation in the Parliament and State legislatures. She said that women had proved their mettle in every sphere in this age of competition and their participation was must in the all round development of the society. She said that is any woman candidate contest any election to Lok Sabha and State Legislatures,a women candidate must be fielded against her. Earlier,she also addressed a meeting of the women and informed the women about the schemes launched by central government for the welfare of women.She also urged the Mahila Congress workers to work for strengthening the party at grass root level. Punjab Mahila Congress president Dr.Malti Thapar,Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Rana K.P.Singh,District Congress Committee president Sukhwinder Singh Whisky,Senior Congress leader Ramesh Goyal,Harwinder Kaur also spoke on the occasion.
