New industrial policy in January,2009- Sukhbir Badal

AMRITSAR: Member Parliament and President SAD, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that in the next three year Punjab would provide electricity on cheapest price in Punjab as compared to other States of the nation.

 



Talking to the Punjab Newsline,Sukhbir ruled out any special power package to the Punjab's industry but promised when Punjab would be able to produce surplus, would definitely supply uninterrupted electricity to Industry on cheapest rates.

Sukhbir said that State Government was making all out efforts for turning the State into a power surplus state.  He said that the construction of 2 Thermal Plants of 2000 and 600 MW capacity respectively at Talwandi Sabo and Goindwal Sahib has already been started and two more such plants of 1500 and 2600 MW capacity to follow soon at Rajpura and Gidderbaha and expressed confidence that within 3 years all these Thermal Plants would be fully functional and the State Government would provide 24 hour uninterrupted and assured power supply for domestic as well as industrial purpose that too at cheapest rate in the country.

Adding further Sukhbir said that that two world class trade fair centres would be set up soon at Amritsar and Mohali as after Delhi there was no international level trade fair Centre in the whole north region to boost the economic activity.

He also said that the state government would announce its new industrial policy in January, 2009 prepared by the UNIDO. Nodoubt, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir States enjoying special package but that would be  no more effective in the coming period and new industrial policy of Punjab Government would certainly be beneficial for the promotion of industry.

He said that that the State Government has chalked out an ambitious plan of Rs. 1000 crore for the complete revamping of the holy city of Amritsar and for this purpose services of eminent city scapists have been taken to suggest complete plan with in four months.

Punjab Cabinet Minister, Bikram Singh Majithia said that this was the biggest international exposition in the whole of North India and would give ample opportunities to industry, entrepreneurs and corporate sectors from within the country and various south- Asian countries to flourish further and showcase their vast potential.

He underlined the need to strengthen trade relations with the neighboring country Pakistan to restore the pristine glory of the holy city as the major business hub like pre partition era.  He pointed out that the trade volume with Pakistan was at present is about Rs 600 crore annually and it has the potential to go up to $6 billion if peace prevails and trade between the countries continues to grow. With the Attari border opening up, the traditional trade route from India to Central Asian and even European countries would get a boost, he added.
