CHANDIGARH: The Northern Zone State Cricket Associations has instituted the Dhruv Pandove Trophy which would be awarded to the winner State of the under-13 years cricket tournament.
Dhruv Pandove was a most up-coming and talented cricketer of the Punjab who had rubbed shoulders with the famous present Indian cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble etc. He made a mark in the India youth team and was considered a potential Indian cricketer. He had achieved the rarest distinction to be the youngest player to score 50 (half century), 100 (century) and aggregate of 1000 runs in the senior national first class cricket in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy etc and his brilliant career was cut short by a road accident in 1992.
The under-13 years tournament is an event which had been started on the recommendation of Junior Cricket Committee of the BCCI. The North Zone states had decided to organize the Inter-State cricket tournament for the under-13 years age group. It was first started by the South Zone and has been a great success in surfacing the talented players at very early age of 13 years. The North Zone youngsters will have an early exposure of competitive cricket The inaugural tournament in North Zone is starting from September 22 at Patiala, the home town of Dhruv Pandove.
