Punjab to frame policy for containing stone-crushers

CHANDIGARH: The Ropar administration carried out raids to register FIR’s against those involved in illegal mining. Ten persons were arrested, FIR’s were registered against 12, 29 stone crushers were sealed for working without permission. 
 
The stone crushers who have been registered are Mangat Stone Crusher, JK Stone Crusher, Chabbra Stone Crusher, Satkartar Stone Crusher, Dasmesh Stone Crusher, Jaspal Stone Crusher, Dhillon Stone Crusher, Singh Stone Crusher, Bansal Stone Crusher, Super Stone Crusher, Rana Stone Crusher and Lambar Stone Crusher. Four tractors, two earth movers, acar, tippers and jeeps have been seized. 
 
The stone-crushing units which were violating the provisions stipulated by the Punjab Pollution Control Board have been registered. Punjab Government has decided to come up with a new policy to control stone-crushers. A meeting was convened by Principal Secretary, Industries, AR Talwar in Chandigarh, a policy has been framed that only who have the permit to mine the quarries for sand and gravel be allowed to set up new stone crushers.
 
The 2004 policy of Himachal Pradesh Government on stone crushers will be implemented. Under this policy, those who have sites allotted to them for mining the minor minerals will be allowed for setting up new crushers. The draft policy will soon be sent to the Industries Minister and the Cabinet for final approval.
