Rs. 80 crore Project of Golden Temple Entrance Plaza begins
##ad_1##AMRITSAR: The construction work for setting up Golden Temple entrance plaza has started in full swing. Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Kahan Singh Pannu said that Plaza on available public space in front of Golden Temple has been planned to be set up with a cost outlay of about Rs. 80 crore with a view that the space should compliment the glory and grandeur of Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) and be a befitting entry to the internationally acclaimed monument of faith in terms of its historic and religious background.
The Govt. had selected the architect through an international bidding competition conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. The final design was selected by a jury consisting of Mr. Moshe Safdie (Principal Architect, Khalsa Heritage Centre), Mr. Collin Franklin (international Design consultant),. Ravindra Bhan (expert landscape architect) and Prof. K.T.Ravindran (Head of Dept. Of Urban Design, School of Planning and Architecture), while S. Avtar Singh Makkar (President S.G.P.C), Prof.A.S.Brar (Vice Chancellor, G.N.D.U.), Geetika Kalha (Principal Secretary, Tourism, Punjab Govt.), K.S Pannu (Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar) were other representatives in the jury panel.
M/S design associate INC Noida was selected as the final Architect. The architect has finalized the design. The design include provision for all requisite services like visitor interpretation centre, information office, public conveniences, VIP Block and security services in addition to Jora Ghar( shoe deposit room).
