Breaking News:

SC must take notice of 'One lakh tree to be cut for road widening'

AMRITSAR: The news “one lakh trees to be cut” for six lanning of jallandar –karnal road reminded me of Arnold Toynbee a noted historian who studied the symptoms of rise and fall of 21 civilizations and concluded that most of the earlier civilizations disappeared not because of foreign invasions but because of the neglect of the ecological concerns.

The promise of planting ten tree saplings for each tree felled is false and misleading. Such promises in the past always provided India with paper forests rather fake forests.

Further the concerned do not know that the REAL WORTH of (A) single tree is Rs. 98 lakh (NASA scientists’ conclusion). That way nation would lose wealth around one crore lakh on the felling of one lakh trees which is a colossal loss. Former Prime Minister of Norway  Bondevick straight way drove to the presidential palace and submitted his resignation when he failed to get cleared a piece of legislation that he thought was necessary for the improvement of ecological environment of the country. Felling of trees for widening of roads is because of a bad economic policy of providing liberal loans for cars. Is the Prime Minister of India listening it?

Through the columns of PunjabNewsline I humbly request the Apex Court of the country to take notice of this news and stop the vested interests from digging the grave of the civilization. Also who will play Sunder Lal Bahuguna’s (Chipko Movement) role in this part of the country is million dollar question.
