Six Punjab cities to be mapped by Geographical Information System
##ad_1##CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government is all set to put six big cities with ultra modern ‘Geographical Information System’ (GIS) to facilitate future planning, expansion and maintenance of civic infrastructure in these cities.
Disclosing this here today, Local Bodies and Industries Minister Mr. Tikshan Sud said that GIS would be started in the cities including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Pathankot by October 31st of this year, which would be further implemented in remaining districts of the state.
Sud said that under this prestigious project of National Urban Information System, a total 137 cities has been chosen from across the country for initiating GIS and out of total 6 cities of Punjab has been adopted. Elaborating the GIS, the Minister said that with the implementation of GIS by October this year, complete information of these cities would be complied on GIS.
##ad_2##The Minister said that these databases would be proved beneficial and helpful during preparation of ‘Master Plans’ of these cities in future. He said that Rs 48 lakh would be spent in each city and the installation work was on war level. He said that satellite images of these cities would be captured, which would later on develop as database including maps of the city area, roads and rail networks along sites of Bus Stand, Railway Station and other Public Offices with detailed information besides prior decision would also be made for establishments of residential area, commercial complexes, shops, roads etc, which would be helpful to reduce traffic congestions and environment related problems. He said that each household would be available on GIS program with full population of cities and householders.
He said that all the records of Municipal Corporations would also be available online resulting submissions of electricity, water supply, sewerage bills etc under one roof.
