LUDHIANA: Security would be tightened to make it fool proof so that the incidents like the massacre of 6 Sikhs in Wisconsin Gurdwara in USA do not recur. This assurance was given to Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar president of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC ) by the USA envoy Nancy Powell.

Makkar told here today that he along with other Sikh leaders met Ms. Powell at New Delhi yesterday. Two representatives of the US government, he said, would attend the Bhog ceremony to be held in memory of those Sikhs killed in the American Gurdwara at Gurudwara Manji Sahib in Amritsar .

The SGPC president also disclosed that the SGPC would provide a financial assistance to the tune of rupees two lakh each to the families of three Ragis Ranjit Singh , Sita Singh ( brothers belonging to Delhi ) and Parshotam Singh ( Haridwar ) who lost their lives in the shootout in US Gurudwara .

Makkar said that he had asked the US ambassador to convey to her government that steps should be taken to identify the Sikhs settled in USA and provide them a proper status in the country .
