Manavjeet SandhuPATIALA: Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Abhinav Bindra both hailing from Punjab has proved the fact that it is the age old shooting skills which has once again focused how Punjab players are now a threat in the world of shooting.

Manavjit who had been showing consistent performance all these years when he won the Asian shooting title has the inherited guiding skills from his father Gurbir Singh himself remained international shooter in his time and arjuna awardee. Despite failures in last Athens Olympics and in 2002 Commonwealth games, Manavjit did not lose heart and improved his confidence. 

Few months back, he told that keeping fit with perfect weight management was essential for any clay Pigeon shooter. Manavjit controlled his diet and also did lot of physical training so that mental pressure and the load of his rifle do not allow any injury to creep in. 

Manavjit is a now a sure bet for medal in the 15th Asian games in Doha and if all goes well in the 2008 Olympics His current feat is no less than any Olympics achievement as all the world class shooters were in Croatia to prove their worth.

Both Manavjit and Abhinav have given Indian sports a new look euphoria in the world of sports.

Talking to Punjab Newsline from Bangalore the father of Manavjit, Gurbir Singh Sandhu, who is also president of Punjab State Rifle Association, said that it was a dream come true by the grace of god as every shooter has ultimate desire to have this honour. Though Olympics have its own standard and shooters have

considered it as Mecca, he added. Asked about his training fro next Olympics he said that we have plenty time and Government of India and Punjab Government will provide more facilities to him. 

He however disclosed that International Sports Shooting Federation, looking at his improved potential has approved as scholar ship of $ 800 per month for him besides JCT, BILT and AIS were sponsoring his financial burden.
