CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Wednesday in two separate communications to the Chief Election Commission of India has sought immediate deployment of Para Military forces /Central Forces such as CRPF or BSF in order to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of  Amritsar south Assembly constituency by poll, scheduled for 22nd May 2008.

 

Bir Devinder Singh Chief Spokes Person of PPCC said, it is feared that the Punjab Police might indulge in large scale rigging and booth capturing in collusion with Akali-BJP ruling alliance ¡ Musclemen¢ to favor the SAD BJP ruling alliance candidate in the ensuring by poll .

He said that  Punjab Pradesh Congress has also sought immediate appointment of the Observers of the Election Commission, so as to check the massive violation of the model code of conduct which has become operative with the announcement of the date for the By-Poll, with immediate effect.

Reports reaching the congress head quarter at Chandigarh, suggests that various development works are being undertaken by Amritsar Municipal Corporation day & night on war footing to woo the voters in favor of ruling party candidate.

Pradesh Congress has asked the District Congress committee Amritsar (Urban) and all its councilor to remain vigilant on the violation of model code of conduct and any violation they notice, be immediately brought to the notice of PCC so that the matter could be taken up immediately with the Election Commission of India.

Search panel constituted by the PCC President to short list the name of the party aspirants who wish to contest the by-poll as congress candidate has submitted its report to the PCC president Tuesday.

The PCC president called the emergency meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee at her residence Wednesday to consider the recommendation of the search committee and also to draft the panel of candidates, preference wise, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal is leaving for Delhi Thursday to submit the panel to the congress  high command for the final nod on the name of the party candidate.

Pradesh congress is in a hurry to get its candidate cleared by the congress high command so that they could start the election campaign without loosing any time.
