FATEHGARH SAHIB: A farmer from village Barima near Amloh town of district Fatehgarh Sahib was found sowing early paddy , his paddy nursery ploughed by officials of agriculture department in presence of Amloh SDM Poonamdeep Kaur. Dr Arjun Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Amloh said that to check falling water level in the state, the field of the farmer Malkit Singh was ploughed.
He said that his department is urging the farmers to stop the early transplantation of paddy as it leads to depletion of groundwater, but now, the time has come when there is need to restrict them from doing so by adopting strict measures. It may be mentioned here that concerned over the depleting groundwater table in the border belt, district magistrate-cum-deputy commissioner has imposed a ban on the sowing of paddy nursery paddy nursery . This is probably for the first time that stringent measures have been taken to discourage early sowing of the crop. |
