KURUKSHETRA: The people in Haryana are facing long power cuts as there is a daily shortage of 283 lakh units in the state.
The power utilities in the state are supplying 526 lakh units against daily demand of 809 lakh unit. The peak load and off peak load demand is 2461 mw in the state. Two units of Panipat thermal plant are not generating power as unit no. 4 is under annual maintenance and unit no. 1 is under renovation. Unit no .2 of Faridabad Thermal Station is closed for some inspection works. Even the two central units of 144 MW each at Faridabad are not working. The 300 Mw unit no1 at Yamuna Nagar thermal station has been closed for three weeks to check the operational efficiency of the recently commissioned unit.
The unit would be available in last week of this month. Unit no. 2 is running only on 125 MW and is yet to start on coal firing and the trial run may also start in next three weeks. There is about 12 hour power cut in Kurukshetra city while villages hardly get any power in day time. According to sources the power utilities are diverting power to those areas where by elections are due later this month. Life in the cities has been effected very badly as supply of water is also linked with supply of power. Small Businessmen are also suffering more as their work solely depends upon power supply. |
