FATEHGARH SAHIB: 60 candidates  filed their nomination papers for Zila Parishad elections in district Fatehgarh Sahib.

Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner-cum District Electoral Officer Ashok Singla informed that for 5 block Samitis of the district,  63 candidates filed nominations for Khera block, 71 for Sirhind block, 72 for Amloh block, 60 for Bassi Pathana block and 68 for Khamano block.

He said that elaborate arrangements have been made for peaceful completion of the election.  He said that scrutiny of the papers will be done on May 3 while nomination papers could be withdrawn till May 5.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate directed all the arms license holders to deposit their arms to near police stations/ arms dealers till May 6. The orders were issued under section 144 of CrPC Act so that election process could be completed in peaceful manner.

The DM also directed closure of liquor vends on May 12 and May 14 . These orders were issued under section 54 of Punjab Excise Act, 1914 and all restaurants, clubs, hotels have been directed not to store, sale or serve liquor on these days.
