LUDHIANA: Sumer Singh Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana has asked all the political parties and candidates to fully cooperate with the election machinery engaged for  conducting free and fare elections to 12 Panchat Samitis and one Zila Parishad  in the district being held on 12th of May, 2008.    

 

The Deputy Commissioner was  addressing a meeting of the representatives of the political parties and concerned officers. Both election observers i.e. A S  Chattwal  IAS, Observer for Jagroan, Raikot, Ludhiana (East) and Ludhiana (West) Teshils and Arunjit Singh Miglani PCS,  Election Observer  for Payal, Samrala and Khanna  Sub Divisions,  R K Jaiswal SSP and Priyank Bharti  Additional Deputy Commissioner (Dev) cum-Additional District Electoral Officer, Ludhiana also attended the meeting.        

The Deputy commissioner asked the representatives of political parties and candidates to abide by the directions given in the Model code of conduct of state Election Commission for the elections.

He told all the Returning Officers to ensure the proper rehearsals of the polling staff and apprise them of the election rules and procedures properly, so that smooth elections could be conducted.        

Pryank bharti informed that total 828 candidates had filed their nomination papers for elections to 227 zones in 12   Panchayat Samitis and 101 candidates filed their nominations for 25 seats of Zila Parishad Ludhiana. 

He said that the required polling staff had already been deputed for the conduct of the elections and rehearsals were being started from 4th of May by all the Returning officers.
