NEW DELHI: Lt Gen Avadhesh Prakash has taken over as new Military Secretary.

A war veteran of 1971 Indo-Pak War was Born on 26 January 1950. Lieutenant General Avadhesh Prakash, AVSM, VSM did his schooling from Sainik School, Lucknow. He joined NDA in 1969 and was commissioned into 1ST Bn the NAGA Regt on 20th Dec 1970 from Indian Military Academy.

General Avadhesh Prakash, AVSM, VSM has commanded 1 NAGA, 69 Mtn Bde which actively participated in Op VIJAY and 17 Mtn Div dply on Sino – Indian Boarder. The General assumed the appointment of the Military Secretary on 01 May 2008. 

General Avadhesh Prakash is the Colonel of the Kumaon & Naga Regts. The General has attended several courses; important ones being DSSC, HC and NDC.  During his distinguished career spanning four decades, the General Officer has held varied important appointments including AMS, Dy MS (CA&S), Army Headquarters, Col A HQ Southern Command and Col GS of 8 Mtn Div.

He has also held several important instructional appointments as an Instructor Class C at Infantry School, Mhow and SC Wg at College of Combat. The General is the only offr who have held two tenures at IMTRAT Bhutan, initially as Instr Cl B and letter as the Comdt of the Trg Team from Jun 05 to Sep 07.  On being promoted to the rank of Lt Gen he was appt as the DGIS. 

The General was awarded VSM for his distinguished Command of 17 Mtn Div and VSM while serving with HQ Southern Command.
