NEW DELHI: The Left-UPA committee that is examining the Indo-US nuclear scheduled to meet on Tuesday for the eighth time.

The committee had last met on March 17 after the Indian team of negotiators agreed on a draft India-specific safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Left has said it needs more clarity on this issue. CPM general secretary Prakash Karat had written a letter to this effect in April to Minister of External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee.

It is learnt that the Left wants to see the text of the draft agreement.

Government sources however have said that protocol does not allow this since negotiations with IAEA are still on.

But the Left is firm in opposing the deal and as per the sources, they are likely to engage the government, at least, until such time when pushing for the deal even in the US becomes tough.
