CHANDIGARH: The procurement agencies in Haryana have procured 46 per cent more wheat than the total procurement of last year.
About 49.68 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the 362 mandis of the State so far during the current rabi season. Out of which, 49.16 lakh metric tonnes have been purchased by the six government procuring agencies. Besides 51,408 metric tonnes have been purchased by the traders which constituted only one per cent of the total arrival. Giving this information on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that last year, 33.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was purchased at the minimum support price. The procuring agencies had surpassed the record of the last three years in purchase of wheat. In 2004-2005 as much as 45.43 lakh MTs of wheat was purchased. Enumerating details, he said that HAFED had procured 18.34 lakh MTs, Food and Supplies Department had procured 10 lakh MTs of wheat, Food Corporation of India 7.48 lakh MTs, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 4.53 lakh MTs, Confed 4.42 lakh MTs and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 4.28 lakh MTs. The Deputy Chief Minister said that Sirsa district had left behind Karnal district with the arrival of 6.87 lakh metric tones. Karnal was leading with 5.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat so far. Similarly, Fatehabad mandis received 5.48 lakh MTs, Kaithal 5.44 lakh MTs, Jind 5.33 lakh MTs, Kurukshetra 4.88 lakh MTs, Hisar 3.23 lakh MTs, Faridabad 2.59 lakh MTs, Panipat 2.17 lakh MTs, Sonipat 1.97 lakh MTs, Ambala 1.55 lakh MTs, Yamunanagar 1.19 lakh MTs and Panchkula 18,077 metric tonnes of wheat. |
