NEW DELHI: Inputs with the Centre indicate as many as 11,852 Afghans, 657 Chinese, 13 Taiwanese, 172 "stateless-Tibetans", 880 Americans, 671 Britons overstayed illegally in India in 2007 followed by 1,083 Bangladeshis and 1,050 Sri Lankans.
Interestingly, none of the 22,467 foreigners of more than 152 nationalities who overstayed in the country last year were of Pakistani origin. Foreigners of other nationalities who overstayed in the country include 330 citizens of Canada, 283 French, 214 Iranians, 106 Iraqis, 67 Israelis, 86 Italians, 95 Japanese, 152 Kenyans, 263 persons of South Korea, 248 Malay, 192 Mauritian, 278 nationals of Myanmar and 854 Nigerians. Besides, 148 Sudanese, 194 Tanzanians and 41 Syrians and 49 nationals of Switzerland were also found to have overstayed in the country last year. |
