27 nomination papers rejected in Punjab, Haryana |

CHANDIGARH: The nomination papers of 27 candidates, including nominees of the Congress, BJP and INLD - were rejected during inspection on Tuesday leaving 90 candidates in fray for the May 22 by-election to four assembly constituencies in Haryana and Punjab.
While giving this information an EC spokesman said that the nomination of 84 candidates for three assembly seats of Adampur, Gohana and Indri in Haryana and of six candidates for the Amritsar (South) assembly seat in neighbouring Punjab were found in order after the scrutiny of nomination papers on Tuesday. The final picture of contestants would emerge on May 8 - the last date of withdrawals. The 41 candidates whose papers were found in order for Adampur seat included former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal's son and INLD Chief Om Parkash Chautala's younger brother Ranjit Singh (Congress), former Finance Minister Sampat Singh (INLD) and Parbhat Singh (CPIM). |
