CHANDIGARH; The State Election Commission, Punjab today postponed the election to the Panchayat Samiti Zone No.11 Pherurarian and Panchayat Samiti Muktsar Zone No.13 Thandewala for 26th May which were scheduled to be held on 12.05.2008.           

Disclosing this here Friday a spokesman of the State Election Commission, Punjab said that on the directions of Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, in the case of Shri Karam Din and others, whose nomination papers were earlier rejected and now have been permitted to participate in the election subject to the final decision of the writ petition, are being treated as candidates.  However, as per the election schedule, specific date has to be fixed for withdrawal and allotment of symbol for this Panchayat Samiti Zone. Thereafter, period of campaigning is also to be allowed.

 Accordingly the Commission has directed that poll to Panchayat Samiti Zone No.11 Pherurarian, which was scheduled to be held on 12.05.2008 was hereby postponed.  Further, the poll to this Panchayat Samiti Zone No.11 Pherurarian would be held on 26.05.2008. The date of withdrawal would be 19th May 2008 and symbol would be allotted thereafter. 

Giving these instructions to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development)-cum-Additional District Electoral Officer, Ludhiana, the Commission has directed to take further necessary action immediately under intimation to the Commission.

He further added that election to Panchayat Samiti Muktsar Zone No.13, Thandewala has also been postponed on the orders of Hon'ble Punjab & Haryana High Court. In this order Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed vide order dated 08.05.2008 in CWP No.7654/08 that the nomination papers of S. Gurpinder Singh son of Gurdial Singh, resident of Village Thandewala district Muktsar be accepted provisionally and the petitioner be permitted to participate in the election subject to the final decision of the petition.

Pursuant to the directions of Hon'ble High Court S. Gurpinder Singh son of Gurdial Singh would be treated as a candidate for election to Panchayat Samiti Muktsar Zone No.13 Thandewala.  As per the election schedule, specific date has to be fixed for date has to be fixed for withdrawal and allotment of symbol.  Further period of campaigning is also to be allowed. Accordingly it is hereby directed that poll to Panchayat Samiti Muktsar, Zone No.13 which is scheduled to be held on 12.05.2008 is hereby postponed.  Further, the poll to Panchayat Samiti, Muktsar Zone No.13 shall be held on 26.05.2008. The date of withdrawal shall be 19th May 2008 and symbol shall be allotted thereafter.

Giving these instructions to the Electoral Registration Officer-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrate, Muktsar the Commission has directed to take further necessary action immediately under intimation to the Commission.
