PATIALA: Dr Anil Grover, who has joined as chief consultant and head of department of the department of cardiology, Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, has started tele cardiology facility wherein round the clock data of the patient can be emailed to a common address and an emergency telephonic advice can be sought from the consultant at any hour.
Dr Grover, during the course of an interview with The Tribune here today, said that he intended to extend this service free of cost to all those who needed it. Dr Grover, a former head of the Department of Cardiology, PGIMER Chandigarh (2000-2004) and an ex-Professor of Cardiology, BPKIHS, Dharan Nepal (2006-07), has performed over 12,000 cardiac catherisations (with over 3000 procedures in children as old as 10 hours to a patient as young as a gentleman of 93 years). His interest in poor is highlighted by the fact that he has already done the first permanent pacemaker at the GSMCH which has been done with the help of donation from Rotary Club, Rajpura in a 32 year old lady with very little cost to the patient. Born on September 22, 1958, he did his graduation with distinction from Medical College, Shimla after winning top positions and Gold Medals in five out of ten subjects of M.B;B.S. He was adjudged best graduate of the year 1981 from Himachal Pradesh University. He was selected as Professor of Cardiology by the Ministry of External Affairs for BP Koirala Institute at Dharan, in Nepal where he served for over a year in 2006. In 1993 he went for a two year fellowship in cardiology in State University of New York at Buffalo, USA. With over 100 scientific publications in peer reviewed national and international journals, Dr Grover maintains humility. He says, "Talent is God given and man should be humble. I do intervention cardiology for making a living but my heart lies in rural epidemiology of rheumatic fever and doing research in experimental cardiology. " Dr Grover has won several awards for his work. Recently he was awarded Shiksha Rattan Puruskar by Indian International Friendship Society and was chosen also chosen by a publishing house as one of the Best Citizens of 2007. He has authored several health education books in Hindi and English. Dr Grover says that the best reward for his work is when a patient says ˜thank you` even it is as toothless smile of three-month-old baby whose cardiac defect has been cured by skilled hands. |
