CHANDIGARH: A Congress worker was killed and about half a dozen were injured when supporters of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) candidate in block samiti poll at village Bring near Tarn Taran on Monday opened fire following a scuffle.
The reports reaching here said that deceased has been identified as Gurjant Singh who was killed in full public view. The police has registered a case under section 302 of IPC against Ranjit Singh SAD candidate and his supporters. The injured have been identified as Sarwan Singh, Gurminder Singh and Gurpreet Singh. In yet another incident late last night the SAD and BJP workers clashed at Tarn Taran and ecchanged gun fires. About a dozen persons from both sides were injured. The reports of scuffle between SAD and Congress workers were also received from other parts of the state. The election commission sources said that by and large poll was peaceful. The election has been countermanded at five places in Patiala, the early reports said. A report from Nawanshehar said that 65 percent polling was reported from various parts of district. The counting of votes would take place on May 14.
