CHANDIGARH: Upset over coalition partner SAD's attitude towards it, the BJP state leadership on Monday said "time has come to redefine the alliance agreement in Punjab". The meeting of core committee of BJP is going in Chandigarh to decide future course of action.
Referring to the attack on BJP workers on Sunday night and during today's polls, allegedly by SAD activists, state unit chief Rajender Bhandari said "the dignity and security of our party workers are dearer to us rather than the very existence of coalition government". "If things proceed like this, then the party will think upon re-defining the coalition. The party is taking stock of the situation. We will decide on the future course of action," he told PTI. The party has convened a meeting of its MLAs and core group on Tuesday to take stock of the situation. BJP national secretary and in-charge of state affairs Balbir Punj will also be present. Bhandari said seven party activists were "thrashed" by SAD activists in Bathinda and Faridkot districts on Monday. MLA Anil Joshi and party men were attacked at Tarn Taran late last night. The BJP leader said few SAD workers and an MLA had "indulged" in a "murderous attack" on Joshi and party workers. "This a matter of grave concern to the party," he said. In the 117-seat assembly, SAD has 48 members while its partner BJP has 19 MLAs.
