CHANDIGARH: The stand off between Punjab's ruling coalition of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP over thrashing of BJP workers by Akalis during Zila Parishad elections was resolved Tuesday evening after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced to transfer SSP and DC of Tarn Taran and assured action against guilty party men.
The political crisis in Punjab was blown into full proportion in the morning when BJP's core committee and Legislature party met here. The party reportedly decided to hand over resignation letters of its five ministers and four parliamentary secretaries to the Chief Minister in protest against high handedness of Akali workers and civil and police officials. The BJP leaders led by party's national general secretary Balbir Punj went to the residence of Chief Minister and lodged their protest. The SAD core committee had also met before meeting with BJP. Both the parties held parleys for about five hours before Badal and Pubnj came out with joing statement that action would be taken against the guilty. Badal also announced to suspend two police officials including SP Tejwant Singh Maur and DSP Ranbir Singh both posted in Tarn Taran. Thy reportedly failed to react when Anil Joshi BJP MLA informed them about firing on him by SAD workers a day before polling day. It is expected that Punjab government would also shift the DGP N.P.SAulakh against whom BJP has made a complaint. |
