Wheat mop-up touches 102 lakh tonnes in Punjab |

CHANDIGARH: Six Government agencies and private millers in Punjab have procured more than 101.96 lakh tonnes of wheat up to May 13 against 74.33 lakh tonnes procured during the corresponding period last year, representing a growth of more than 37 per cent.
According to an official spokesman, out of 101,96,983 tonnes procured till date, 96,17,394 tonnes (94.3%) has been procured for the central pool and 2,87,286 tonnes (2.8%) for the State pool whereas traders lifted 2,92.303 tonnes of wheat. While PUNGRAIN had procured 17, 92,674 tonnes (18.6%), MARKFED 23, 06,493 tonnes (24%), PUNSUP 22, 07, 546 tonnes (23%), PSWC 11, 77,397 tonnes (12.4%) whereas PAIC has been able to procure 10, 87,568 tonnes (11.3%) of wheat for the central pool. The Central Government agency FCI has been able to procure 10, 45,716 tonnes (10.9%) for the central pool. The spokesman said that Ferozepur district with 11,89,471 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur district with 9,46,872 tonnes of procurement stood second and Ludhiana district with 8,43,006 tonnes ranked third. |
