CHANDIGARH: A galaxy of renowned artists will be participating in Sri Satguru Partap Singh Sangeet Sammelan being organized by Namdhari Sangat Chandigarh on Saturday & Sunday i.e. May 17 & 18, 2008 at Bhargava Auditorium, P.G.I., Chandigarh.

Disclosing this here Thursday Gurbachan Singh Namdhari, General Secretary and Sharan Pal Singh Namdhari said that the programme is being organized in the memory of their Guru whose contribution to preservation and promotion of Indian Classical Music is well known.  Artists who would be performing include - Ustad Shahid Parvez (Sitar), Sanjeev Abhyankar (Vocal), Padam Bhushan Pandit Debu Chaudhary (Sitar), Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty (Music), Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari alias Pinki (Tabla), Baljit
Singh Namdhari (Tar Shahnai) and Sant Singh Namdhari (Vocal).   The accompanists on Tabla will be Shri Akram Khan and Shri Kale Ram.

The General Secretary informed that to carry forward the tradition of nurturing, preservation and promotion of Indian Classical Music started by Sikh Gurus, Satguru Partap Singh ji had established a Sangeet Vidayalaya way back in 1928 at Sri Bhaini Sahib, Dist. Ludhiana.  He had ensured that the purity, nuances and sublimating dimensions of Music are not lost but kept alive and nurtured.    The present Guru Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji further strengthened this tradition and has made Sri Bhaini Sahib a Pilgrimage Centre for musicians since 1959.  There have been consistent endeavour to promote Indian Classical Music at National and International level.

The Sangeet Sameelan will be open to all.  The passes can be collected from M/s Amar Sons, SCO 147-148, Sector 22-A, Chandigarh; G.G. Enterprises, SCO No.147-148, Sector 22-A, Chandigarh and M/s Raymond 22, SCO 843-844, Sector 22-A, Chandigarh.

Amongst others who will be gracing the occasion will include – Satguru Jagjit Singh ji, Shri Manoranjan Kalia, Cabinet Minister, Punjab,  Inderjit Singh Namdhari, former Speaker, Jharkhand and .
