CHANDIGARH: Punjab DGP N.P.S. Aulakh today exhorted the field officers to ensure elaborate and effective security arrangements for smooth, fair and peaceful conduct of coming Amritsar (South) Assembly constituency and Panchayat elections in the state.
He was presiding over a high level meeting of all ADGsP, IGsP Zonal, DIGs Ranges and Senior Superintendents of Police to review the security arrangements for elections. The DGP pointed out that the few incidents of violence witnessed in recently held Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections could have been averted by making more efficient security arrangements and through quick response to the site of confrontation. He informed them that adequate additional police force would be provided to the district police administration and they should also make efforts at their own level to withdraw police personnel attached to different protectees to have their sufficient reserves for strengthening patrolling duties as well laying nakas. He categorically said that there should be no complacency on the part of district police administration in tackling any law and order problem during elections and in case of any failure the concerned district police chief would be held responsible. While urging the police personnel to perform their duties impartially, efficiently, objectively and transparently, he expressed confidence that they would rise to the occasion by ensuring that the democratic process was held in a most orderly and fair manner.
