Punjab Congress demands action against PR minister and secretary Print E-mail

AMRITSAR: Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) in letter to Chief Election Commission (CEC) of India N. Gopala Swami, demanded strict action against Punjab Public relations Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Principal Secretary Punjab Information and Public Relations Department D.S. Jaspal.

 PPCC spokerperson Bir Davidner Singh said that Majithia and Jaspal were allegeldy responsible for for undue interference and brazen violation of the Model Code of Conduct in the Amritsar South Assembly constituency by-Poll in Punjab tobe held on May 22.

PPCC in a letter to CEC alleged that Bikram had called the meeting of the officials of the Public Relations department of Punjab Government including the Principal Secretary of the Department. DS Jaspal IAS, in MK Hotel Amritsar yesterday.

Bir Davinder furhter alleged that It becomes more obvious because the meeting of the Principal secretary and other officials of the public relation Department with the Minister had taken place not in a Government office or premises but in a Private Hotel that too in the room of the President of Shiromany Akali Dal. Sukhbir Singh Badal. It is thus a clear cut case of misuse of official machinery and undue interference in administrative matters to extract political benefit during the election at Amritsar (South) Constituency.

Adding further Bir Davinder said that In view of this gross misconduct of the Minister and the Principal Secretary D.S Jaspal, a criminal case may be ordered to be registered against both of them and their entry may kindly be banned in the Amritsar City till the election process is completed. Action may also be initiated against D.S Jaspal under the relevant provisions of the conduct rules for violating the directions of the Election Commission of India.

Bir Davinder further added CEC was also urged to take action against Chief Secretary Punjab. Ramesh Inder Singh regarding his clandestine visit to Amritsar and his meeting with the president of Shiromany Akali Dal Sh. Sukhbir Singh Badal in MK hotel Amritsar on 16.05.08 at 10.00 AM.

Letter furhter stated that although this meeting and the presence of chief secretary  in Amritsar has been denied by his personnel staff, but the fact of the matter is that he was very much in Amritsar , yesterday. Congress party is willing to produce the witnesses who have seen him entering the hotel, if the Election Commission so desire. Congress Party further requests that the following details may kindly be ascertained from the Punjab Government as well as from the telecom companies whose cellular phone Chief Secretary is using.

Details of the call data records (CDR) of the mobile telephone (Cellular Phones) calls of the chief Secretary together with its transcripts,   from Morning till evening on 16th May 2008 and the identification of the BTS (Base Transmission Station) Towers through which these calls were transmitted, PPCC urged the CEC in a letter.
