PATIALA: The Punjab police would soon file a supplementary charge against  corruption against Maharashtra-cadre IPS officer and Punjab's former DGP S S Virk  in disproportionate assets  in Mohali court. Virk was booked in the case by present SAD-BJP government.

The Asthana panel has also started probe into allegations of links between Virk and police cats. The police has already issued look out notice for Sukhwinder 'Sukhi', an alleged police cat and an confident of  Virk, who is absoconding now. Patiala police has also raided his house in Jalandhar and other hideouts to nab him twice in last month.

Police sources said here Tuesday that one-man probe panel headed by Patiala SSP S K Asthana has conducting the probe into assets and cat cases at fast pace. SSP is presently ascertaining banks statements of former DGP, which have already been provided by various banks to him.

Police sources said that in land deal near Zirakpur payments from buyers were allegedly received through cheques and drafts that were deposited in a private Bank at Chandigarh. Large deposits and withdrawals were made from the account in Virk's name. From September 2000 to August 2007, the total transactions in the account added to over Rs 3 crore.

Asthana was ordered by the Punjab Government to take over the probe in the wake of directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Sources said he has started assessing the value of properties owned by the former DGP in Chandigarh and Punjab, including his prime property in Zirakpur. It is learnt that the Asthana would start gauging and assessing value of Virk's house in Sector 27 in Chandigarh during next few days.

Since SK Asthana, a single man probe panel was busy in High court, as he has been facing case against him for custodial death in Barnala during his stint as SP there. Now High court has put off Barnala case till July this year. He has again resumed the inquiry in this case.

Since the government had already submitted a challan against Virk in the Ropar district and sessions court on March 20 which was later transferred to Mohali, the supplementary challan would be filed very soon, police sources  said.

The police has already issued look out notice for Sukhwinder 'Sukhi', an alleged police cat and an confident of  Virk, who is absoconding now. Patiala police has also raided his house in Jalandhar and other hideouts to nab him twice in last month.
