NAWANSHEHAR: The Nawanshehar chapter of Indian Medical Association in a meeting held at Sukhmani Hospital here Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr Jagmohan Puri flayed the incident in which an unruly mob had beaten up a doctor of a private hospital in Jalandhar on Tuesday after the death of a patient there.

According to a release issued by the IMA secretary Dr Devinder Dhanda, the meeting urged the state government to bring an ordinance on the Andhra Pradesh pattern wherein such cases were referred to a committee of IMA to decide whether the patient had died of negligence or not. "This will help in preventing such situations in future and will be in the larger interest of the society," said the release. The meeting extended full support to IMA Jalandhar in the matter.
