CHANDIGARH:  The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues,  in a  message on Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, called upon the people to
follow the tenets of Sikhism and to renew our resolve to work with devotion, commitment and dedication to create a society of peace,  progress and prosperity.

Paying rich homage to Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, the Governor said that he was a great spiritual ambassador, an illustrious poet, a practical philosopher and made the supreme sacrifice of his life -
rare in the annals of history - for preserving the values of humanism and secularism.  He said that the contribution of Guru Arjun Dev Ji in accomplishing the monumental task of compiling ‘Adi Granth’ Sri Guru Granth Sahib, by collecting the sacred Vani of the preceding Gurus and Saints & Sages of different faiths & beliefs, would be remembered forever. Guru Ji’s biggest contribution was the belief that everyone was equal and his ‘Sukhmani Sahib Vani” is a prayer for peace and maintained that
the most important reality is to pray to God and do good deeds.

General Rodrigues said that the real tribute to the great guru would be to propagate his philosophy and to work together for building a new Resurgent India, based on the values of humanism, social equality, compassion, tolerance and harmonious living.
