PATIALA: All India Bank Employees Association (AIBOA) has launched Nation-wide campaign against mis-directed & misplaced priorities, in defence of Public Sector Banks and attempts of privatisation of Public Sector Banks. Punjab State mployees/Officers in Punjab have beared badges and held demonstration on Wednesday.
The demonstration was held before State Bank of Patiala, Head Office, The Mall, Patiala and rally was held which was addressed by Com. N. K. Gaur, General Secretary, Punjab Bank Employees Federation and Com. Vinod Sharma, General Secretary, A.I.B.O.A. (Punjab State) Committee. The employees have been opposing continued attempts of privatisation of banks, merger & consolidation of public sector banks, unrestricted entry of fdi in banks with full voting rights, banking credit for speculation and hoardings and low cost advances to big corporate. The employees have been demanding, opening more bank branches in unbanked areas, reduction in service charges for normal banking services , increase in interest rates on saving deposits, more loans to priority sector & in particular to agriculture, extension of agriculture loan at 4%, extension of interest free loans to weaker sections, strengthen laws for speedy recovery of npa's, merger of rrb's with sponsoring banks and speedy implementation of vaidyanathan committee's recommendations to strengthen co-operative banks. As a part of nation-wide campaign, State Level Rally of Bank employees/Officers will be held at Ludhiana on July 5 in which around 5000 employees will participate. This rally will be address by Com. C. H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA & Com. Amarjeet Kaur, Secretary, AITUC. Bank employees will also participate in the general strike call given by the sponsoring committee of Trade Unions on August 20, 2008.
