Only six MLA's stand by him CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Chief Minsiter Captain Amarinder Singh has failed to garner support for himself in the Punjab Congress following registration of another corruption case against him and five other co-accused.
While PPCC president has not made any categorical statement in defence of Amarinder Singh, the Congress MLA's who were considered close to Amarinder Singh have turned back to him. Out of 41 Congresas MLA's, only six have come forward to support the former Chief Minister. No senior Congress leader except former minsiter Lal Singh extended support to Amarinder Singh. But Lal Singh also backed out today on the question of issuing a written statement. The statement issued by Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has mentioned the names of five other MLA'S namely Sunil Jakhar, Kanwarjit Singh Brar, Rana K.P Singh, Ajit Inder Singh Mofar, Om Prakash Soni. The unsigned statement read, " We the undersigned MLA's, categorically condemn the vilification and character assassination campaign launched against Capt. Amarinder Singh by the Badal Govt. in the garb of false, frivolous and politically motivated cases against him. Unable to arrest him in the so called Ludhiana City Centre case, Prakash Singh Badal and his son are once again using the police machinery of the state to settle political scores and are acting under politics of extreme vendetta. By indulging in slanderous propaganda against Capt. Amarinder Singh, the Badal's have given vent to the venom that they hold against their political adversaries". The statement further said that Constitutional and legal working has been thrown to the winds in Punjab, the way PRI elections have been rigged and booths captured in the recently concluded MC elections of Bathinda, it only reminds us of some medieval age monarchy hell bent to teach people a lesson, we are sure this definitely is not a democratic way to function. Vice Chancellors, lawyers and journalists have not been spared the wrath of these cruel rulers, we infact appeal to the Hon'ble Courts and the Govt. of India to take suo moto notice of the grave crises created by the illegal and unconstitutional working of the SAD-BJP Govt. in the state. Dalits have been forced to flee their homes due to political repression, people have to place their dead in front of the Police Stations and demand justice, it is not law and order but anarchy in Punjab. If the Badal's think that by registering false cases against its political opponents particularly Capt. Amarinder Singh, they can cow down and browbeat the Congress they are extremely mistaken and living in a fool's paradise. We reiterate that on the issue of political vendetta unleashed in Punjab, all Congressmen are one and that we all stand united like a wall with Capt. Amarinder Singh. We warn the Govt. to immediately withdraw all such cases that have been registered mischievously and maliciously against Amarinder Singh and restore the rule of law or else the Congress will resort a long drawn democratic struggle in the state. It stated," If the Govt. is serious on the issue of corruption we challenge it to refer the matter of disproportionate assets and ill gotten wealth of both, the Badal family as well as that of Capt Amarinder Singh to an independent commission of enquiry, let the terms of reference include acquisition of properties and wealth by these leaders, from the day they commenced their political careers, let the truth prevail" .
