AMRITSAR: More than seven trains which were scheduled to leave from Amritsar have been cancelled till evening as announced Amritsar Railway Authority here Wednesday due to the protest of Damdami Taksal.

Seven trains which were cancelled today  2014 Shatabdi Express, 2460 Super Fast, 5708 Amarpali Express, 2204 Garib Rath, 2716 Sachkhand, 5210 Jansewa and 2054 Jan Shatabdi.

However, rail traffic was normalized today in the evening 5.15 p.m onwards. No untoward incident reported from any corner of the city.

It was a tough time for the passengers who have booking for today from Amritsar Railway Station for different trains. Hundreds of passengers including women and children were seen perturbed.

According to the Railway Authority nearly ten thousand passengers who were scheduled to leave Amritsar by train for different locations have suffered.

On June 21, Taksal Chief Harnam Singh Dhuma has given call for June 25 to interrupt Rail Traffic from Amritsar to Delhi in protest to support their demand to arrest the Chief of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh and his body guards for allegedly murdering Sikh Balkar Singh in Mumbai few days back.

Today early in the morning hundreds of Sikh youth of Taksal carrying naked swords in their hands and portrait of slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala blocked all Rail tracks at different railway crossings in Amritsar in order to throw the rail traffic out of gear.

A goods train which was coming from Jallandhar was stooped by the protesters at outer area of the Amritsar Railway station. Elaborate security arrangements were already made by the district police in view of protest.

Since morning, no train including VIP train Shatabdi Express, Del-Lux moved from Amritsar, since protesters had blocked the trail track early in the morning. However, Railway Authority refunded tickets to passengers who were having booking for today from Amritsar. An immense crowd of passengers was noticed at the main Bus Stand of Amritsar.

Protesters also blocked the national highway at different locations in Amritsar from 12 p.m to 2 p.m which also disturbed smooth flow of vehicular traffic and created restlessness among the people who desired to travel by road in the absence to train service.
