AMRITSAR: In order to churn out a common and comprehensive strategy for sustainable growth of Tourism sector in the region and to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities that the industry faces today, CII Amritsar Zonal Council organised an Interactive Session with UNWTO Team.
A team of 10 delegates was led by Richard Batchelor, Team Leader , Punjab Tourism Development Master Plan. Batchelor briefed the participants on the progress on the Master Plan for developing tourism in Punjab.The proposal was to draft a 15 years plan for upliftment of tourism in the state. The plan would be reviewed every five years to review the situation for the betterment of tourism. The participants shared their views about the major constraints being encountered in expanding tourism and made recommendations for improving the work environment. Areas where there was potential for growth in the state, such as religious and heritage tourism, medical tourism and rural tourism were also discussed. Gunbir Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Punjab State Council welcomed the delegates and urged them to focus on improving the infrastructure in major tourist destinations in order to improve tourism in the state. He expressed that such kind of sessions are a fine blend of travel, hospitality and service dynamics together on one platform and a great opportunity to network. He further reiterated CII’s commitment to work in close consultation with the government to promote the Tourism Industry in North India. The session was attended by a large number of delegates representing the travel, tourism & hospitality industry, institutions, NGOs, consultants and persons engaged with tourism industry in the Government and in the private sector. |
