FATEHGARH SAHIB: Dal Khalsa asked the Government of India to set-up a country level task force to stop drug trafficking along with international borders of Punjab and the local borders adjoining neighbouring states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and J&K.
Observing the international day against drug menace, party leaders Kanwar Pal Singh and H S Dhami said the menace of drug abuse has threatened to swallow the coming generation. All parts of Punjab were in the octopus-like grip of different kinds of alcohol and drug abuse. They said it was time to wake up to the occasion and declared a full scale war on these enemies of society and humanity. The leaders allege that the younger generation was a victim of manufactured drugs. They said smack from Rajasthan, UP, MP and Karnataka reaches Punjab through the complicity of the administration and politicians. They observed a large cross section of society has been enticed by opium, heroin, smack, liquor, poppy-husk, cigarettes, injections and capsules. Tobacco and tobacco-related products are affecting a majority of people. They urge the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to enforce Anti-Tobacco Act strictly and instruct respective ministries to launch a special Health Awareness and Sports participation programme. They also demanded that Information and Broadcasting Ministry to transmit inspirational programmes for the youth of the region. Coming down heavily on the bogus pharmaceutical companies in and around Delhi for manufacturing fake drugs, the Dal Khalsa leaders allege that these drugs were sold in bulk in Punjab without bill and prescription, in clear violation of the drug and Cosmetic Act. Blaming politicians of all political streams for the rise in drug abuse, they said, the widespread use of alcohol and drugs during elections at all levels cannot be overlooked. "Almost all political parties indulge in nefarious activity to win over voters and as thanksgiving–kick to party workers". |
