AMRITSAR: During his visit in Amritsar, Minister of External Affairs, Government of India Parnab Mukherjee here today said that political crises with the left on nuclear issue still there.
Replying to the queries of media regarding the nuclear deal, Mukherjee enormously supported Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s stand on the deal. Mukherjee added that with the expected fourfold increase in the demand for power supply which would be almost 8 lac Mega Watt by 2030, the only cheap, best and environment friendly means is power generation via nuclear means. With an eye to the hike in worldwide petroleum prices and a need to protect the environment from the adverse effect of burning coal, the only practical alternative is nuclear energy, he added. Mukherjee said the UPA Government quite serious over the nuclear issue and yet under discussion. Mukherjee added that political crises are still there with UPA partner but dialogue process is going on with Left. “There is no threat to UPA Government and it would complete its term”, said he. Government is not in hurry to sign the nuclear deal, he cleared. Mukherjee said for Prime Minister national interest is supreme and he is not cause for crises. Continuing further Mukherjee said UPA seriously discussing the text of agreement which is not acceptable to India. Since India is nuclear empowered nation, since it has nuclear weapons. Guidelines of America given in the text are not acceptable to India as it does not suit to India and America has to bring certain changes in the text and its constitutional provision. Talking about infiltration from Bangladesh border to India, Mukherjee said that as per reports infiltration still continue and it is being stopped with positive measures. |
