AMRITSAR: Indian national Ram Prakash (51), arrested by Pakistani authorities a decade ago on charges of spying, was brought at Indo-Pak Attari Border here today by the Pakistan Authority for repatriation but Indian Authority refused to accept him due to lack of identification and other requisite traveling documents.

Senior officer of Immigration Authority informed that Pakistan Authority following the directions of Pakistan’s Interior Ministry brought Ram Parkash at Attari Border today for repatriation but lacking necessary travel documents which are required at the time of crossing of international border.

Officer further informed, “We have told the Pakistani official that they have to follow the certain rules meant for reparation of prisoners. As first of all, the antecedents of Indian prisoner Ram Paraksh would be confirmed from India through the Indian High Commission based at Islamabad. After confirming the antecedents and identification, ‘Emergency Travel Certificate ‘would be issued by the Islamabad based Indian High Commission and thereafter repatriation would be matured in the presence Indian diplomat posted in Islamabad”.

Immigration officer said Pakistan Authority did not bother to inform the Indian High Commission at Islamabad about the release of Ram Parkash and took him to Attari Border without obtaining the travel documents.

Ram Parkash was released from the Kotlakhpat jail of Lahore in Pakistan on Tuesday after completing his prison term.

Prakash, was set free from Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore this morning. The interior ministry yesterday ordered his release after he completed his 10-year prison term.

In May 24 this year, Pakistan had released 99 Indian prisoners, including 96 fishermen, as a goodwill gesture on the occasion of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Pakistan.

On May 24, when 99 Indian prisoners were set free to India claimed that still more than 700 Indian fishermen languishing in the Pak prison.
