NAWANSHEHAR: Three persons including two real brothers, died due to asphyxiation in a well in Rahon Wednesday evening, reports reaching here Thursday said.
As per reports, Kulwant Singh, 35, resident of Mohalla Rajputan, had left for his fields at Neelowal Road at around 6 pm, yesterday. However, as he failed to return home by 10 pm, his younger brother Jaswant Singh, 30, their servant Abdul alias Moti, a resident of West Bengal, and some other people of the area went to the fields to search for him. There they found Kulwant Singh lying unconscious in the well. Thinking that he might have been electrocuted while rectifying or switching on the "motor", Jaswant and Abdul switched off the power supply and went into the well. But soon both of them too fell unconscious and made others realize that what had happened was due to the accumulation of gases in the well. The reports added that soon efforts were made to clear the well off gases with the help of umbrella and "chunna" (calcium carbonate ). After sometime, another labourer, Lallu, was lowered into the well. But he too soon became unconscious. However, somehow, Lallu was brought out from the well in the unconscious condition and admitted to a private hospital in Rahon. The other three were brought out dead. The police and the administration were informed. This is the second such incident in the area. Only four days, a father-son duo had died due to asphyxiation in Garhbhdhana village in similar circumstances. Farmers of the area have urged the administration to organize special camps to educate the farmers about the requisite preventive measures that need to be taken to prevent such mishaps. |
