Addressing a rally at Dana Mandi in Balachaur, Amarinder Singh and other leaders lambasted the state government and the Punjab police for their failure to nab the culprits, allegedly the employers of the deceased, even after 35 days of the murder. They further accused the ruling alliance of sheltering the accused. The opposition leades threatened to launch a statewide agitation in case the accused were not arrested soon. It needs to be mentioned here that the people of Balachaur are pressing for the arrest of the accused and have been holding dharnas and rallies since the day of murder. Though earlier, the leaders of the ruling and the opposition parties of area were united in demanding the arrest of the culprits under the banner of an Action Committee, later the ruling alliance had dissociated itself from the Action Committee and had formed its own Nigran Committee to pursue the case. As the Nawanshahr police had failed to arrest the accused even after three weeks, on the demand of these committees, the enquiry of the case was later shifted to SSP Hoshiarpur. |
