AMRITSAR: The arrival of 50 year old Ram Parkash, an Indian Prisoner released from Pakistan jail June 30 last has once again been delayed due to formalities by Indian government and he is now expected to return home on July 7.
The family members of Ram Parkassh had a long wait due to delay in preparing travel documents by Indian authorities. The reports reaching here said that now he would be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagha check post on July 7. Pakistani jail officials had brought Ram Parkash to wagha post on July 1 last but ndian authorities refused to accept him. The Indian authorities countered that as Ram Parkash was not carrying valid ETDs (Emergency Travel Documents), they could not allow his entry. He was sent back to the Kot Lakhpat jail. On Saturday media men had reached Wagha border to watch the repatriation but the exercise proved futile once again. Ram Parkash, a resident of Kucha Talab village, near Bishnah in Jammu, was arrested in 1997 and lodged in the Pakistani jail in 1998 on the charges of spying. Recently, the Interior Ministry of Pakistan had ordered his release after completion of his ten-year prison term. The family of Ram Parkash had claied that he had inadvertently strayed into Pakistan. The Immigration and BSF authorities who faced criticism for disallowing his entry, contended that they had to follow the rules and regulations besides adhere to proper protocol in such sensitive international matters, and had no authority to accept him without proper travel documents . |
