Rail traffic disrupted in Punjab due to bandh by Sant Samaj Print E-mail

PHAGWARA:  Up and Dn line rail traffic in most parts of Punjab including prestigious Amritsar-Delhi rail section remained suspended till 12 noon due to Punjab Bandh call given by various Sikh Organisations on Wednesday.

Railway Sources told this correspondent here today that Delhi bound Amritsar-Delhi  2204 DN Garib Rath Express, Amritsar bound  2903 UP Frontier Mail, were detained  at Mannwali Railway Station by the protestors while Delhi bound 2014 DN Shatawadi Express which proceeded from Amritsar this morning was forced to returned back from Mannwali.

Railway Sources told that later rail traffic could be restored by 12 noon.Sources said that first train ie Shatawadi Express could proceed from Amritsar at 11.55AM and then all detained trains including 5610DN Jan Nayak Express,5708 DN Amritsar-Barauni Express,2426DN Delux Express,1058 DN Amritsar-Dadar Express detained near Amritsar railway station could proceed for their destinations,while 2029UP Amritsar bound Shatawadi Express,2498DN Shane-Punjab Express,8238 DN Chatisgarh Express,3049UP Howrah Express,8104DN Mouri Express,3006DN Howrah Mail and 3050 DN Howrah Express, which were detained at Ludhiana Railway Station could proceed for their destinations afternoon.

Meanwhile complete bandh was observed at Phagwara town which witnessed a deserted look  today.Protestors also blocked vehicular road traffic on national high ways near general bus stand today.

In Amritsar, Sant Samaj activists squatted on railway tracks near Vala village in Amritsar District and stopped the Garib Rath Express, railway officials said.

As a precautionary measure, railway authorities stopped the Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi Express, the Jan Shatabdi express, the Sachkhand Express and the Amritsar-Delhi Super Express from moving out of the Amritsar Railway Station.

Road traffic on national highways and other roads were also disrupted at Fatehgarh, Phagwara and Moga, officials said.
