CHANDIGARH: While, Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) is contemplating action against its MP Sukhdev Singh Libra who had abstained from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during trust vote, Libra however has defended his action and said that he had obeyed his conscience.

Libra who belongs had won from Ropar Lok Sabha seat twice said that he had no regret on abstaining from Lok Sabha. He said that his conscience didn't allow him to vote against the Sikh Prime Minister. He said that he was loyal to party but cant go against the interests of country.

Libra also rebutted the outburst of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal who had accused him of betrayal threatened deciplinary action. He said that Sukhbir Badal should behave and dont cross his boundaries. He said that he and his father Parkash Singh Badal are long time frients and in personal and political life. He refuted Sukhbir Badal's allegations that he(Libra) had received Rs.20 crore for abstaining. He said that it was baseless allegation. He said that as a true Sikh he had done his duty. He had yesterday accused that Sukhbir Badal had threatened him of dire consequences if not voted against the motion on nuclear deal.

The Libra's absence from Lok Sabha has caused lot of embarrassment to the Akali Dal and also vindicated the claims of Congress that certain Akali MP's would support UPA government.

The SAD understood to have lost the face among Sikhs after opposing Dr.Manmohan Singh on the nuclear issue despite the fact that they support the setting up of nuclear plant in Punjab. The political observers said that it was suicidal for Akalis to oppose the Sikh Prime Minister. Even in the Lok Sabha various leaders had cursed the Akalis for opposing Sikh PM. Mulayam Singh Yadav said that Sikhs who are only 2 percent of India's population should be proud that being a minority they have got chance to see a Sikh as nation's Prime Minister. No other minority community can get such an opportunity, he added.

Various Sikh organisations and Akali groups had appealed the SAD to support Dr.Manmohan Singh in the Lok Sabha because it would be a historic event. Even senior leaders of party had advised Sukhbir Singh Badal to support Dr.Manmohan Singh otherwise Sikhs will never spare Akali Dal. Its heat, SAD is expected to feel in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Sukhbir Singh Badal had said that Sikh religion of Dr.Manmohan Singh was not an issue.
