AMRITSAR: Six persons were killed and eleven injured all passengers of private bus which collided head on with ‘harvesting combine’ (heavy duty six wheeled vehicle used for agriculture purpose) coming from the opposite direction at village Naushera Pannua in Tarn Taran district, nearly 30 kilometers away from Amritsar on Thursday.
Police said that accident occurred due to the gross negligence of the driver of the harvesting combine who joined the national highway from the side fields without noticing that a bus was already coming on high speed on the same road. Police said that all the six passengers of the bus died on the spot and rest eleven were shifted to the hospital at Tarn Taran. The bus was on its way from Kotkapura to Pathankot via Amritsar. Deputy Commissioner Kushi Ram along with other senior police officials of Tarn Taran reached on the spot and later visited the injured at hospital. The deceased included Rohit, a 22 year old youth of Harike who was going to appear in his IELTS examination at Amritsar. The others have been identified as Kuldip Singh (16) a student who was going to school at Tarn Taran,Surinder Singh, Cosntable Kamaljit Singh, Maniit Kaur and Harinder Singh an handicapped employee of SGPC. Deputy Commissioner said that Rs. 1 lakh compensation would be given to kin of dead Rs. 50,000 to the injured and Rs. 25,000 who received minor injuries from the District Red Cross Fund. |
