SANGRUR: The hunger strike by doctors here in protest against assault on Dr. K. G. Singla and Dr. Renu singla and ransacking of Dr. Ashok Ghalib’s hospital at Samana continued for the fourth day on Thursaday even as the main accused in  this case are still roaming free.

The state body of IMA under leadership of Dr. Amrik Singh Arora and Dr. Navjot Singh Dahiya has taken a serious note of the government’s apathy towards the cause of doctors and as a token protest a medical bandh for 2 hours (9 A.M. to 11 A.M.) in all districts of Punjab is being observed.

A rally was  held and memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner who assured that all the culprits will be arrested soon. The association of ayurvedic doctors NIMA, Homeopathic doctors association, Indian Dental Association, Rural doctors association, Punjab Medical Representatives Association, Senior Citizens forum, Lions Club and various other organizations have supported the bandh and have actively participated in the rally.

The speakers while condemning the assault on doctors and ransacking of hospitals have demanded immediate arrest of the criminals who tried to spoil the sacred doctor- patient relationship. It was also appreciated by the speakers that repeated problems on Dr. K. G. Singla were due to the fact that he takes a tough stand on principles and does not adopt any shortcuts which are adopted by many others. It was proposed to form a committee comprising of representatives from all walks of life; judiciary, lawyers, doctors, teachers, businessmen, social activists and if possible also the relatives of the deceased (if the want to participate) to analyze the incidents of assault on doctors and give its report so that in future any such unfortunate incidents can be avoided.

Dr. Makhan Singh (President IMA Sangrur), Dr. Inderjit Singla (secretary IMA Sangrur), Dr. Parmod Gupta, Dr. Amandeep Aggarwal, Dr. Surinder Singla, Dr. Kamal Bharti (State President NIMA), Dr. Pawan Aggarwal (District President NIMA), Dr. Varinder Singh (IDA), Dr Charanjit Singh (Malerkotla), Mr. Parminder Sharma (State President PMRA), Mr Gurjant Singh (President BSP local unit) and the panchayat members were amongst the main speakers.
