Sikh youth attack Amritsar cinema hall showing "Singh Is Kinng", four arrested

Singh is KinngAMRITSAR: Four Sikh youth under the banner of Sikh Youth Fedration(Bhindrawala) were arrested by the police for damaging the property of local theatre here Friday.



Police said that around 25 Sikh youth pelted stones at a local theatre on Friday in Amritsar running the opening show of Akshay Kumar-starrer Singh is Kinng, alleging that the film depicts the community in a distorted manner.

The irritant mob of Sikh youth belonging to Sikh organisation ‘Sikh Youth Federation’(Bhindrawala) carrying the portrait of slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala and armed with naked swords, irons and wooden rods, pelted stones at the 'Annam' theatre in a bid to disrupt the show, but timely arrival of police foiled their attempts. 

Police said mob of Sikh who were damaging the reception counter, windowpanes and building of the Theatre were arrested. Mob also attempted to attack on police team. Alleged accused Dr.Gurjinder Singh, Dr.Sukhwinder Singh Tarn Taran, Baldev Singh of Damdami Taksal and Charanjit Singh were arrested under section of 307 of IPC attempt to murder on police personnel.

Most of the Sikh youth fled away when Heavy police party reached on the spot. However, heavy police forces have been deployed outside the city’s two cinema Halls Rialto and Annam where the show of movie ‘Singh is King’ being screened.

Members of Sikh community alleged that Akshay Kumar has been depicted in the movie with distorted character of Sikh personality.

Today, on first day there was overwhelmed response of school and college students was found.

Yesterday movie got a green light from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) after the DSGMC asked the producer Vipul Shah to insert a disclaimer and an apology.

Akshay Kumar, accompanied by Vipul Shah and Maharashtra Legislative Council member Charan Singh Sapra, went at historic Gurdwara (Sikh Shrine) Rakabganj to meet the chief of the DSGMC Paramjit Singh Sarna.

Incidentally, “Singh is Kinng” is the third movie after “Border” and ' Bole So Nihal' , where the lead hero is a turbaned Sikh.
